You can get a smaller cage with a smaller water bottle so he is portable. Car trips are not usually hard for rats–just make sure he has the food and water he needs, and keep him away from the elements. Make sure he is in a secure location in the car, so if you have to slam on the brakes, he doesn’t go flying. If you are traveling by plane, you will need to contact the airline you are traveling with. As frustrating as it is, many of them do not allow rats. If you are going to be staying in hotels, you will need to have some kind of cover on the cage that you can use when you take him in and out of the hotel, and hide him from the cleaning staff somehow.
