I am, too, and it really sucks. I’m sorry. Talk to an allergist. There are some allergy pills that can help with animal allergies, not to mention injections you can get every couple of months.

I am alergic to my rats too! But I don’t care! (I am also allergic to horses, rabbits, and ferrets, but I don’t live with them.) I take loratadine (generic for Claritin) and I am good to go. I take it only when I start feeling sneezy, which is about every other day. I suspect my allergies aren’t as bad as some other people’s because I can treat it pretty easily. I don’t know if I would even care if Clairitn didn’t touch it. I love my rats and can’t imagine being without them!!!! Claritin is so expensive so I recommend you spend your money on the generic. I do hope you are able to take that drug (or some other allegy drug that is safe works for you) and that your allergies to your rats are workable! Good luck!

I used to have 3 male rats and I never had any problems with them at all from start to finish. Though i recently bought a young female and I start sneezing whenever I come into contact with her, she has also left rashes on my arms from when she has ran up them/sat on them. At first I suspected the sawdust but my hamster uses the same stuff from the same bag. I have owned him longer than this rat and there were no problems before she came along. I do not understand why I had no allergy issues with my 3 boys but I do with my little girl. Any ideas ?
