I got him about 4 days ago, he was supposedly one of the most young ones, there were small medim and lare rats. I got the small one. I named him Hobo and he was really cool. I didnt attmept to pick him up til bout a day after i got him. He is very nervous, doenst play almost at all, he just stays in his Bush's Baked bean can allday (he loves that)when he does come out, he is as astiff as a board, doesnt move, he is like in a catatonic state. when i try to pick him up, his breathing is very mechanical and rough, and he is stiff, and after a couple seconds he squeals like he is in excrutiating pain and runs off. that is if i pick him. he absolutely wont it or stay ON my hand. I called the vet and they said to take him in, but i wanted to try to get help first. and i was thinking about ge tting another for him to play with is that good, they are in a 10gal. tank with the can,a brown bag toy that i made, aa food dish, OH that remeinds me, i dont think he is eating, the dish never is less full, the water is gone every night, but no food??? My new rat is very good, he is more curious and energetic, but i can tell that he doesnt like to be held. But it doesnt hurt him like the last one, he just...doesnt like it, he wills tay for couple sec. and then wiggle out of my hand, or just jump off. is there a way to condition him to like my hand? also, how can you give a rat a bath or whatever,, do you have to, i would hink you would, right? and also, he doenst seem to like recieveing treats, i tr to give it to him , he wont eat it, so i put it in his dies, then he eats it when im not there... is he just nervous? My dad has a bird and my brother has some fish. My rabbit lives out side in he's cozy hutch and my turtles live under my play ground as there fenced in. They hide in the hay I give them so I can't play with them and my rabbit is too big for me to take out of his cage and he hates when I do it in the winter!
