I got a rat about 4 years ago when he was a baby. How long do rats actually live? Some people that I know that also have rats say to about 7 and others say to about 5. A web site i went to says 3 but my rat is passed 3.

high quality rat mixture and fruit and veg maybe buy some vitamins and supplements for rats from the pet shop and make sure she has a mineral and salt blocks in her cage too. give her a nest box and lots of soft bedding. once the babies are born DONT touch them or the mopther may abandon them.

if your baby rat who is probly now older is still alive take it to the vet is still sneezing, if u ever think anything is wrong with your rat u must take it to the vet diseases and infections happen fast.

rats live for about 2-3 years obviously some rats can exceed that amout of time and others before although a healthy well looked after rat will live at least to a 1yr and a half.
i am a first timer and i would like the 411 on getting the proper and best supplies needed for one rat only. i would also like information on cage selection.

you could tell her that, for one, rats are not dirty if the place they live in is kept clean, and that pet rats(eventualy) can win prizes in pet shows and if the prize is money, you could offer her a reasonable ammount of money out of that prize.sometimes, parents are more likely to help with things if they think it is more of a hobby, rather than a luxury, or like some object such as a couch, because there is no”world’s cleanest couch award.”but, if your parents do think there is a “world’s cleanest couch award,” or otherwise still dont want you to buy a rat, for a responsibility reason, then offer to take more responsibility, then offer to take a household chore off their hands, and tell them you will do it your self.if that does not work, then you brobably have not tried enough chores, of high enough difficulty.from pure expirience, i know that parents often forget what you were doing this for, and will begin calling you “responsible.”then, one day, after chores ask: “since you think i’m really responsible, can i have a rat?”

I have a male rat that I have taken over the care of and after having him for more than a year a few months, I have noticed that he is walking very slow and makes odd noises at night. Not the usual noises either. He also lifts up his each leg when he walks. He gets his vitamins in his water like he has been and he does have a rat ball to get exercise but I have noticed he doesnt walk around in his ball either. His plate of food goes untouched as well.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do for Milton?
Thanks so much.

I think if this problems persists you should take him to the vet. If you dont have the money for a vet visit then I suggest antibiotics. One of my male rats had gotton slow and lethargic and supressed appetite a while back but with the help of anitbiotics he was better within a week. Tetracycline and Amoxicillin seem to work best. Although he may be healthy and has been well taken care of he could also be old ( in a sense as some rats live to be only a year while others can live 3 or more) or he may have arthritis or respiratory problems ( may be why he’s not exercising in his ball ). I wish you luck and hope your ratty gets better.
