For Humans-
The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents by Terry Pratchett. All about little rats and the trouble they cause, and a mad twist to the pied piper. It is a "kids" book, but those are often the best :)

I have a gerbil ball.
most that have had rats that I know say this is a very bad thing for them. but I have a cat that is inside 50% of the time so I can't just let them run most of the time. Is this really a bad thing or are people being weird?

Samantha

I have a ball for my rats too. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of buying a ball that is much too small for adult rats. It works ok for small young rats, if they can figure out how to use it, but not for large rats.

If the ball you have is sized for gerbils, then it is probably too small and could injure their backs. I have seen some larger, pricey, balls which would probably work better for both of us.
